Cleveland will get the chance to welcome James back to his home town in the Cavaliers' first match of the season when they host the New York Knicks on October 30.
Reigning champions the San Antonio Spurs will start their defence of the NBA title by hosting the Dallas Mavericks on the opening day of the season - October 28 - while runners-up the Heat will welcome the Washington Wizards to Miami the day after.
In other interesting matches in the first week, Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose should make their respective returns from injury when the Los Angeles Lakers host the Houston Rockets and the Chicago Bulls travel to the Knicks.
The NBA will continue their efforts to gain fans around the world with two games held outside the United States.
On November 11, the Rockets will play the Minnesota Timberwolves in Mexico City, while the Knicks will take on the Milwaukee Bucks in London on January 15.
The regular season will finish on April 15 with the NBA play-offs set to begin three days later.
